CSA - What is It?
CSA - What is It?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the consumer. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables and/or fruit, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receives a container of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season. Benefits to the consumer include, but are not limited to:
- Exposure to high-quality fruit and vegetables in their most natural state, harvested at their peak of freshness.
- Possible exposure to new kinds of fruit and vegetables, as well as tips on cooking them.
- Opportunity to build a relationship with the farmer who grows the food you eat.
- Opportunities to learn more about where your food is grown and how it makes its way from farm to table.
CSA shares are available in a SUMMER SHARE (June, July, and August) - 12 weeks; and again in a FALL SHARE (Sept., October) - 8 weeks. Payment for shares can be made in full at the time of sign-up or broken into two installments, the first half due when you sign up and the second due the 1st day you pick up your first share. Cost for shares:
- $240 for a Summer Share
- $160 for a Fall Share
Does this sound like something you would like to participate in? If so, please contact us through our Contact page. Fall, 2017, shares are currently available. Summer, 2018, shares will be available in January.
